Day 10

Today I made a short story personifying a bee. You can view it below
A Bee’s Life

By Yusuf Malik

Honeybee landing on milkthistle02.jpgThere is only one thing, the thing that matters most to bees and is more important than themselves: the hive. Above all else the hive must be taken care of. Inside of this hive there is a bee about to go into the world for first time. For now we will call him Dumble, Dumblebee. Today would be the first say he leaves the hive.

A sense of fear overcame because outside the hives there were birds, dragonflies, and beewolves that would be looking for tasty bees like Dumble. But Dumble had to do his bee duty. He mustered up his courage, fluttered his wing, and took off. As bumble flew out of the hive and into the open he was blinded by great light in the sky. As Dumble looked down at the land so far down below him, he saw the land explode with so many different colors. Red, blue, violet, yellow, pink, orange, and many other as well. Bumble flew down to a flower bigger than the rest, yellow, with some red. It seemed to call out to Dumble. Dumble stood upon the flower, his eyes filled with the possibility of nectar, but as he approached the center he found the flower was almost devoid of nectar. Devastated, Dumble decided to go to a place where no bee has gone before, so he could complete the most important task at hand, collecting nectar. He needed fly into the city.”

Dumble had to fly many miles to reach the city. What Dumble saw made him feel uneasy. The streets below were more chaotic than Dumble’s hive. He shook off his disbelief and continued his search for nectar. Then he saw it, a bright orange flower, more beautiful than a sunset. Dumble zoomed over but right when he was about to reach the flower he hit an invisible force. Every time bumble tried to approach the flower he felt something smack him in the face, but this confused him greatly as he could not see anything that could stop him from reaching that flower. Tried, Dumble drifted down towards the streets. Filled with despair and disappointment, Dumble felt that he had failed the hive, and then WHAM! Dumble was hit by the windshield of a car and perished immediately.

Day 7

Today we got to enjoy nature at a slower pace.  Went to Bellbrook canoe rental to canoe down the river. Me and a partner got to canoe for five miles. The slow pace really helped me appreciate the scenery around me. I even created a poem to commemorate the moment.

To make a river it take some water and dirt. Rock, and tadpoles, and a pinch of bugs. And if you have no bugs, the turtles and frogs will do.

Day 6

Today we stayed at school. A senior though us how to do vignette. We went through the five steps of making vignettes and then did a practice. Afterwards we had to do one of a picture of an animal we took. I still believe my vignette needs work but this is what I have so far.

Moving across the floor so lost
This frog rest here to due to his exhaust.
He must dream of a cool wet pond
But that pond must be pretty far beyond.
His skin wet yet smooth

His aroma smells of his pond.
It starts making other critters respond
All he sees is food, enemy and home
And forever this earth he rooms.
He tongue will only taste the bitter and sweet and sour and salty
He feels his efforts may be faulty.

All around the earth he hears

He hears for the home he holds so dear.

Day 6

On this cold and cloudy day the class took a trip to Mad River

Metro Park. We walked through the quiet nature, birds

buzzing in the background. We walked down the dirt path

filled with the smell of plants. It was sad to see invasive

plants like hemlock and honeysuckle block out the rest. After

the hike was done we took a trip down to the river. There we

learned to use kayaks. The smell reminded me of a pool.

Kayaking is not as easy as it seems.

day 5

Today we stayed in the school. We examined the story wild, a book and a movie. It was about Cheryl Stragh. She single-handedly hiked 1100 miles on the pacific crest trail, in 94 days. She carried a 70 pound bag with her which eventually became fifty pounds. Everyone tried their luck in creating their own backpacking list to take on a long-term trail. Then we tested the estimated weight, using dumbbells in a bag.
The bag used, with over 70 pounds!

Day 4

Today the class took a field trip to the Aullwoods Audubon, a nature preserve. There we were given a tour of the areas natural beauty. We learned about the various plants and birds along the way and how they may be used in everyday situation. After our tour outside on the Aullwood trail we went inside to see some of the animals there. There I came saw several species of bird, turtles, lizards and snakes.

Here is a picture of the snake I held

Day 3

Today we took a trip to Cox Arboretum, a nature preserve. All the students were allowed to explore the preserve as they saw fit. My group of friends and I explored the various paths. We got to explore the explosion of color around that came in the shapes of flowers in trees. Around us we also saw many different animals. Below I will post the pictures from my exploration, I believe that these pictures will explain more than words.
